I couldn't believe my eyes

Good morning everybody, I am feeling a tad better the last couple of days especially in the mornings so I eased out to feed the birds this morning. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Our Bartlett Pear Tree was putting on buds. They are gonna get killed for sure since it is supposed to drop down in the teens at night this week. The last two morning there has been a very heavy frost and in the upper 20's so I don't see how they made it through all that. Looks like the tips might have some damage.

Something funny happened this week I wanted to share with you. I didn't see it but Ken told me and I had a good laugh. Wish I had of had my camera ready.
Ken was going down the hallway carrying an armload of bedclothes and he felt like some were dragging the floor. He looked around and down and there was Daisy with a mouth full of clothes as if she were trying to help him LOL.

    I know what you mean Helen, even in the freezing weather my roses have been sending out new shoots. I expect your pear will be ok though the shoots probably won`t.

    Perhaps you could train Daisy to do all the laundry for you...lol!

    It is freezing here and I don't see anything but snow everywhere. If anything had a new bud or shoot on it here it would be a miracle for sure. Glad you are feeling better. I think it is so cute that your daisy dog wanted to help out. 'On Ya'-ma

    My pear did that one year and I had no pears, so sad. It is so cold her my trees wouldn't dare think about budding, -3 and falling.

    It is going to get brutal starting Wednesday night. Those are huge buds, they are already really coming out! That was sweet of Daisy to help out with the laundry. ;) Hugs, Kelly

    'tis sad when the blooms come too soon. I hate that when it happens. Usually happens in the mid climates. We catch it in SC for the peaches and in Fla for the oranges sometime.
    Good that everyone helps carry the laundry. ha!

    I wish we had signs of Spring here in WI but it will be awhile yet as its going down to -12 tonight and NOTHING grows in that.

    Haha! Sheeba "helps" with the laundry by burrowing into the basket full of warm clothes!

    Oh no about your pear tree. That happened to us a couple of years ago, with many of our trees getting "nipped" by a late spring frost. It's upsetting.

    When I was growing up everyone always worried about cold snaps for fear the fruit crop would be wiped out as it well could be. I am glad that your dog decided to pitch in and help with you ailing like you are. Ha. Gerry

    Hello Miss Helen,

    You know how the weather in Alabama goes we are suppose to be in the teens before the weekend. I have tiny leaves on my mulberry trees I know they will be gone before it's all over.

    Helen that would have been the cutest video of the pup helping Ken with the clothes! Good to hear that you are feeling better...even if just a little bit...I noticed a few blooms around here too and they are predicting weather in the teens ...

    Hi Helen, I'm glad you feel a bit better. Daisy knew you couldn't help Ken so she thought she'd try! Lol! Animals do make us laugh don't they?! Maybe the pear tree will throw out some new buds after the cold spell, seems too early for them to be shooting already. Stay warm and I hope you continue to get rid of that back pain.     I am so sad to hear about your pear tree. This winter appears to be unforgiving for all of us here in the US and Canada.

    I noticed you have not posted anything new Helen. I did see this post before and think I commented somewhere. About Daisy helping with the clothes. I will be seeing my doctor on Monday about my left hip (hips) now. This morning was bad, and this medication depresses me. My hip has been getting worse, though I am still walking later in the day. I at least know now that it is not my back that is causing the worst pain. Temps are up to 40F today after 2 days in the teens (daytime). Birds and squirrels get cracked corn/birdseed mix on the snow covered ground every day. The squirrels have lots of pecans from the fall in their reserves. mark
