Feeling better

Just a few words to say I am feeling much better. Went to the neurosurgeon on Wed and he was well pleased. In fact he said for me to call them in a couple of months to let them know how I was doing. My back still hurts some but so far it's not unbearable.  I take an Aleve each morning and a couple of Tylenol a day to cope with the pain I do have. I have been taking some slow shorts walks and it does seem to help. I use my trekking pole to help me with support. I am hoping when the weather gets warmer I will be able by then to do some geocaching with Ken. We both are getting tired of being cooped up in the house so long. It has been a month on the 9th of this month since my surgery.
Ken has been having some problems with some of his blood veins rupturing and causing big lumps which will eventually go down but leaves the places black and blue. This is caused by the Plavix the surgeon has him on. He had to see a different doc but he wouldn't take him off of it because he would be going against what his regular surgeon told him to do. He put him on a surgical support hose.Thing is his doc is out for a few weeks because his wife is having health problems. I am thinking he just needs to be on a different blood thinner.( like I am a doctor LOL)

Thanks for all your emails along with your prayers and good wishes.
Have a blessed weekend everyone.
 Helen

  1. My Mom is on Plavix and if she merely bumps herself she start bleeding. Her arms always looks like she has been in a fight. I am afraid they are going to think she is abused. ;-) Glad to hear you both are better and I can imagine you are both wanting to get out for a spell.

Wow it is good that you are feeling better. I think that is a little sooner than he had said. But thank goodness the pain in bearable with a little help.
    Thinking of you and Ken.

  4. Helen, I am so glad you are feeling better. It's about time! I'm like you; I don't necessarily trust the doctors. They just aren't always in tune with reality.

  5. This is wonderful news. You have been through so much between the two of you. I'm glad you are able to take short walks and that the pain is bearable. Hope you get to go outside soon. Being cooped up in the house is no fun at all. You take care.

  8. Hey momma! I'm SOOOO VERY THANKFUL that you are improving by leaps and bounds! For all of you who read my mom's post. I have to share with you what a tough "little cookie" my momma is! I've NEVER seen anyone in such pain in my entire life!!! When she was in the hospital, even easing a fluffy pillow behine her back put her into agony. If she moved even a fraction of an inch, it was agony. You can imagine then, what just moving to the edge of the bed was like for her. Much less standing up and going to the potty! I was so worried about her!!! Being her age and in such pain... she is truly a WALKING MIRACLE, and seeing that she's been able to sit long enough to type to all of her friends on this blog, brings tears to my eyes!!! It's hard to see your parent hurt and to THAT extent!!! GOD is GOOD and he's blessed her! The doctor told me right after surgery... he didn't even say hello. He looked at me while walking up to me and said, "Her back is BADDD!!!" He then caught himself and backed up and told me she came through anesthesia fine, but had a tremendous amount of scar tissue from prior surgery and he had found spinal fluid leaking out and was able to stop that with a blood patch. He told me she would never be completely out of pain and it would take 4-5 weeks for her to experience ANY relief in the pain going down her right leg. My prayer this entire time is for her speedy recovery AND for GOD to prove the doctor WRONG!!!! She's had days now where she doesn't hurt near what she was experiencing and that is GOD answering prayers!!! The fact she can take a short walk outside is a MIRACLE!!! I thank God for everything he has done! I love you very much, Momma!! and I hope you don't mind my sharing with your readers just a little bit of what you've been through! I hope you have a good day today and the best weekend you've had so far!!!

  14. So happy you are getting better. Abe and I are both on Coumadin to thin our blood. My back is still bothering me a lot, so I have been taking the muscles relaxer more often, before I would take it about every three days. I want to ask my family doctor at the next visit about seeing a doctor for arthritis. You guys hang in there.

  19. Glad to hear you are doing better and the pain is at least bearable..it's a long process...I had mine done in 1980...still have a bit of trouble now and again...but I have been blessed. I even spent 15 years truck driving, but that was about 10 years after the surgury. I was so thankful..I sent the doctor a letter and thanked him..with a picture of me by the truck. He was so pleased..they never get those kinds of letters..just the ones telling they are going to sue..
Geocaching has always sounded like fun to me. I should really look into it.
    Good luck with your recovery..

  20. Getting past the pain is always key to surviving surgery., easier said than done sometimes. It took me a year before I could comfortably walk any distance after my back surgery from a freak accident. My prayers are with you. Take it slow and you will be enjoying the outdoors again in due time. I understand about the sitting or standing too long, any repeatative activity. It's been 9 yrs. and there are still bad days. Just don't overdue. Been thinking of you.
    BlessYourHeart
