As if I am not worried enough already

We just have had to make a quick run hunting Patches. They were shooting those guns in National Guard training. That makes twice that they did several this morning. I had already given her a benadryl then they started again. We saw her run out her doggie door and ran to the back of the yard all the while we were calling her. She was like she was in a trance. Just ignored us calling, went behind the storage building and we know she climbed the fence although we couldn't see her. We rode several blocks behind and in front of the house and went to the main road. There she was running down the road. She went a long way running to get there. Some dogs inside a fence were barking at her so she headed to the fence wagging her tail. Ken pulled up and I called her and she came running and went to Ken's side and hopped in, proud to see us. I now have the doggie dog shut for a while. Guess we will have to shut it from now on as soon as they start shooting. It is so loud at times the windows shake which is unnecessary.
I am a nervous wreck already without her doing that. I am headed off to bed with an ice pack for this back.

This was made last week while she was sitting looking for squirrels.

We would be lost without her or Daisy Mae.

  1. Thank God you found her and she was safe. We always keep our dogs shut firmly inside when they are any loud noises

  2. Thank goodness you got her back safely again. You sure need your dogs right now to provide you some comfort.

So sorry to hear about Mira. Seems like she is always taking two steps forward, one step back.

  3. I have been there and done that with Sadie. One time she was headed right down the middle of the highway about a quarter-mile from home. Lately when she slips away from me, she doesn't go far, or stay long.

  6. I'm so glad you found Patches. My two old Border Collies would run if they heard guns going off or thunder in the distance. It's a worry but at least she's safe, her and Diasy Mae are so pretty. Jeannette xx

  10. You know Helen, they are worth all the troubles that they can be to us! When I think back of the dogs we have had over the years, we have awesome memories and I have some of those "run away" dog deals or maybe they just wanted to go for walks without humans. LOL We have shared our lives with 10 dogs so far! What wonderful times we have had! Love, Merry

  14. I'm glad you were able to find Patches pretty quick. I have been out of town at my parents so I haven't been able to read blogs, but I have kept Mira, you and Ken in my prayers. I will have to spend the next day or two catching up on my blog reading. Hope you are able to rest and relax a little, Sheila

  15. HELEN, MY DOG WAS AFRAID OF THUNDER.
STRICTLY AN OUTSIDE DOG, BIG RED BIRD DOG. LOVED PEOPLE THOUGH WOULD NOT ALLOW ANOTHER DOG NEAR.
UP IN THE MOUNTAINS DURING A THUNDERSTORM SHE WOULD GET CLOSE TO ME AND COULD FEEL HER SHIVERING.
SAD THAT SHE WOULD BE SO FEARFUL OF THUNDER. I NEVER FIRED A GUN NEAR HER NOR DID ANYONE ELSE SO SHE WOULD PROBABLY NOT HAVE BEEN GOOD WITH BIRD HUNTING.
I CERTAINLY WAS A COMFORT TO HER DURING THUNDER.

GLAD YOU FOUND YOUR DOG. sam
