My Daughter's surgery and Carolina Wren

Good morning everybody, Well yesterday my daughter went to see the neurosurgeon and his report was: She has a herniated disk between L4-L5. He says he can make a tiny incision, trim off the disk and she can go back to work in a week. This was great news. She was so happy with the report she was crying when she called me from the Dr's office. She was so afraid she was going to have to have a spinal fusion. Several years ago she had an auto wreck and an MRI showed 2 ruptured disk. She has suffered with it off and on for several years now and missed a lot of work especially lately on account of it. Well this MRI showed only one disk was ruptured. He said the other one had healed itself.
She will have her surgery on the 31st of this month(April) and can recoup the week school is out for spring break. She is a teacher. My request is will everyone please remember her in your prayers and good thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Now on to a couple of pictures I made of this Carolina Wren I made the day it snowed. There is an old clothes peg sack hanging on the back porch which some wrens have used before but not last season. I have noticed them going in there for the night a lot so I just let the bag hang there for them. It seems this season they are going to use it again. I saw one headed that way this morning doing it's chirruping. Yes they do have their nest in there and have raised babies there two seasons. At least it's out of the weather.

  3. Great news about your daughter! I hope all goes well.

Carolina Wrens are one of my favorite birds. They're so cute, with that fat little body and tail sticking up! And they have a beautiful song.

  10. Cute little wren. My son lives on Rock Wren road. I have always thought that was neat. I am glad to hear this more hopeful diagnosis of your daughter's back problem. I hope that this surgery will help her, and I will be sending up prayers for her to have a successful outcome.

  12. Beautiful Wren, good shot. Will pray for the daughter. Glad it is no more involved in the back. They have done so much improvements in methods, it is not like it used to be. But so much bad was advertised as I grew up, it put a fear there. I pray all will go well.
    Enjoyed the entry,.

  18. My son had that surgery and is doing great now. He went into the hospital all bent over, with a cane, and still could hardly walk. He came out walking up-right, no cane, and after the recovery, he is super!!!! Will pray your daughter has the same results.

  19. Hello Helen. Thanks for visiting my blog.

I am glad there is not anything more seriously wrong with your daughter. A back injury can be really awful to have.

  20. What a relief it has to be to know she won't have to go through any major surgery, and spinal fusion, that sounds awful. I would be crying for joy myself. Any surgery is scary, but this sounds much better. That is too cool that those wrens have made that thier nest! I havent seen one of those clothes pin baskets in forever. Mama used to have one, I remember it had red lettering on it, but I cant remember what it said. Hope your having a nice Sunday. The weather has been fantastic hasnt it? :) Hugs, Kelly

  23. That is good news for your daughter. If the disc is herniated, I don't know the medical reason for the procedure, but apparently that is what needs to be done. My bone at L2,L3, and L4 were removed with no fusion. The outlets for the nerves were also widened. The surgery seemed easy compared to knee replacement. Now it is the muscle's in my back and hip that I am getting therapy for. Other area's of my spine have different problems, but the exercise therapy is helping. The Carolina Wren is the same species of bird that makes loud chirping here every year. They nest in my barn, though cats' (this year a white with black spots one)come by here regularly, and they learn how to nest where they are hopefully safe. Many years I find the little one's as they are just beginning to fly. mark
