My daughter and American Goldfinches

Ken and my daughter Mira have just come in. The doc said sometimes some more of the disk he has trimmed off slides out and presses on that nerve. He said give it two more weeks and if it's still not any better he wants another MRI done. I just hope he doesn't have to do surgery again. He wanted her to have a steroid pack but she is like me on that. She can't take them. He told her no sitting at all just standing or laying down. I am so worried about her. Right now it appears that she may not be able to teach any more this term.
Please continue to send up prayers for her. Thank you for the prayers that you have already sent.

The American Goldfinches have really come in this week. Ken and I went a couple of days ago and got one new feeder, we already had an old one and a sack of Thistle seeds. They are really eating them. By a couple of days this sack will be gone.
This batch is all males who haven't fully put all their summer plummage on yet. I noticed the white is showing up kinda blue looking.

  1. Will keep her in our prayers, Anna's back surgery was 2 weeks ago, she has gone from wheel chair to 4 wheeled walker and is slowly going to a cane, they also want her to stand or lay down, they removed parts of 2 vertebre and some material from between a disc, she still has 3 other bad ones but said she is going to wait.

Our Finches have just started to show some yellow, nice picture!

  2. I'm so sorry to hear that your daughter is still suffering, and having a prolonged recovery. I hope that she won't need to have any more surgery.

I'm sure her students are missing her.

The finches are gorgeous! Isn't yellow the most cheerful color?

  6. Lost another comment, shucks.
Will say a prayer for Mira. Bless her heart, hope the pain eases and she can get back to work teaching.
The shots of the finches are great. I love the color and I think the blue hue lends and makes it a little unique.
    Later,

  9. I hope that your daughter will get well soon. Hope she will not have to endure pain and recover to be her own normal self again.

I think having a feeder is one great way to bring nature close to you and capture its beauty. I may find one to put in my home too... not sure such feeder is actually available in Singapore, though.

    Have a good week ahead.

  14. We also have a lot of American Gold Finches here. I usually see 4 - 6 -8 or more on one feeder and the males are getting really a pretty bright yellow color now.

  17. Hi Helen,
I have back problems too and |I think it's related to my bad knees-- bone on bone osteo arthritis. I was hurting the last few years working at Chrysler--but I asked the Lord to JUST LET ME RETIRE after I got my 30.5 years in.

What breed of dogs do you have|??

  18. Helen, Your flowers and birds are gorgeous which also means you are a good photographer! I see by all your commments, others noticed this, too. They are breathtaking. I am not a flower person myself but I love to look at them, just don't like to plant. I am not a bird lover unless it's a picture of them. Hope your daughter's recovery turns around, that's rough. I broke my neck in my early 50's. How old is your daughter? Mine supposedly healed, (I am not paralyzed) but my neck bends forward and down and It ages me. Still, how can I complain? My back surgery was a laminectomy and nerve surgery BUT it didn't benefit me in the least, but I tried. The injections don't work for me either because I have NO spaces left between the disks I love your blog and continue to pray for you and your family. Merry

  20. Feelin' for your daughter...I can't take those meds either. Maybe she could try some holistic stuff...couldn't hurt to check it out.

    Love the finches!!

  21. I hope Mira's condition improves on it's own. My sister's disc surgery worked at first but now she walks to her mailbox and is exhausted from the pain and has to sit down, and then she is fine. So many people with different symptom's following surgery. Mine is now apparently the siatic (I can't find the spelling) nerve. I had x-ray of my left hip and it showed mild to moderate degenerative arthritis. So that could have been a factor at the March physical therapy and the dextromethosone patch's that healed it up along with exercise. Then the right side got bad. Now the pain is more toward the rear of my hip and runs down my thigh. My doctor thinks that is nerve related. I worked through it the other day and seem to be getting a little better. I always blame the weather. The finch's look great at the feeder. Salty's stomach wounds have hair growing over them and no sign of infection. Apparently he was not internally injured. His front left shoulder larger wound has finally closed together after him wearing the head cone for a month. I am patiently waiting to hear from my lawyer's office. I may file the claim myself, and go to court and represent myself as I have gone over and over the facts, and know it was their dog from the beginning. My first main concern was that I be able to walk Salty without harm coming to him on my home area. - (Thinking I would never be paid for my medical or veterinarian expense anyway)- I hope Mira as well as you have some improvement and keep refusing to let the pain stop activity completely. mark/salty

  22. Your flowers are beautiful..Don't you just love this time of year? My flowers are blooming now too. My azaleas haven't bloomed, but they are full of buds. I love your gold finches. They are beautiful. Do you have any problems with squirels eating the seeds from the feeders? Also which seeds do you think will draw finches to your feeders? Thistle or just regular finch food? I have regular finch food in my feeder, and haven't seen any yet. I hope you're having a good day.
    Hugs,
    Pat

  23. Helen the finches are just beautiful! There are so many of them too, like flowers with wings arent they, so pretty :) I hope things will get better in the back department for you and your daughter. I know it has to be very frustrating, especially now when things are warming up. I hope you are having a good day today. :) Love, Kelly
